Welcome

Thank you for visiting our site.

2012 will be a busy year for us, starting with our first lecture on 26th January on 'Risk and Uncertainty' followed by a second Quiz on 22nd February and our 81st Annual Dinner on Friday 23rd March. Tickets are still available for the dinner but bookings are coming in fast so please book soon to avoid disappointment.

We will hold our Second Annual Young Achiever Award at the dinner, once again to be kindly sponsored by Barnett and Barnett Insurance Brokers. In keeping with my continued manifesto over my two years in office, we are continuing our support and development of our young members/young people working in the local insurance market. This award is to recognise a young person under the age of thirty working within our local market who is achieving outstanding performance within their role and/or who is making good progress in their professional development, through appropriate qualifications and perhaps providing a contribution to the wider community. Details will shortly be circulated to our members and employers in the area.

2012 is also a busy year for the CII with the centenary of the Chartered Insurance Institute receiving its Chartered status on 5th February. At this time we can reflect on the changes to the insurance industry over the last 100 years and also speculate as to what the next 100 years will bring. The last 10 years have been particularly challenging with the rapid changes in the way in which insurance is bought and sold, the number of mergers and consolidations of both domestic and international insurers and brokers, the growth in price comparison services for consumers as well as the boom and bust Global economy. Throughout this, The Chartered Insurance Institute has stood firm whilst evolving to reflect the demand and needs of the modern insurance industry.

At the heart of the CII are the local Insurance Institutes,of which there are around sixty nationwide, such as Reading, for which I have the honour of being President. We aim to provide service, both educationally and socially to our members and to those who work in the insurance industry locally. We are also looking to mark the centenary of the Charter with a celebration and also raising public awareness of Chartered status and what it means for our profession.

If you have any comments or suggestions as to what you would like to see us do in this area, please contact us.

On behalf of the Council of the Insurance Institute of Reading, I would like to take this opportunity to wish our members and the local insurance market a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Michael Besant

President
